I watched the iPhone event and noted the video capability. Interesting. But seriously how are you supposed to transfer clips from iPhone to iPad? I was hoping that maybe the new iPhone would have USB C and a quick cable connection would do it. At the moment exporting via lightning to SD or SSD and iCloud or airdrop is so slow. Surely there is a better way for the sort of professional video they were showing or is it all ported to a Mac anyway? What am I missing?

Don't hold your breath for a USB-C iPhone... despite it being the "Pro" thing to do.

Airdrop is quite fast, but if you're so inclined you can directly connect a USB-C iPad to an iPhone with a USB-C-to-Lightning cable. Open Photos on the iPad. Your iPhone shows up under "Devices" and you can copy photos/video to the iPad.

Note: using the above cable will also charge the iPhone from the iPad battery.

Now shoots ProRes, but USB2 transfer speeds.

WiFi is faster.

Wow. Thanks so much. I’ve looked this up heaps and never seen any mention of it. Mind you I haven’t had my iPad Pro very long! I didn’t even realise I had that cable but I think I got one with an Insta 360 X2 camera that I bought from Apple some time ago.
I need to test this more but it seems to be quite fast. My first quick test had 2 clips taken with the phone while connected and these for some reason showed twice on the iPad. Maybe because I have iCloud photos on. Repeating with another video taken while not connected only showed once.
It doesn’t seem to work with the Files app sadly.
Thanks again!

I've always just used AirDrop... reasonably fast though my older 2018 iPad seems to choke if you try and transfer more than 50 video files at a time. No such issues on the missus' 2020 iPad Pro. Less stuffing around than saving to an external SSD, which honestly has never felt particularly fast.

Granted with huge ProRes files, you might be waiting a while for the files to transfer. Lordy, it would be nice if Apple just made Lighting to Lighting cables (or use Lighting to USBC) and you could do a direct wired connection.
